Residential Fire Claim

ire claims involving traumatic events require more than technical assessment. They need a controlled, sensitive and well-managed response that protects everyone involved while still establishing the correct repair pathway.

Morgan Projects was engaged following a high-profile residential fire where the property was also a crime scene.

How we helped

The problem

The home had been deliberately set on fire in several locations, causing significant fire and soot damage throughout the downstairs areas, with heat and soot damage also affecting the upper level.

Because the property was a crime scene, access was restricted until police and forensic investigations were complete. The claim also required careful handling due to the tragic circumstances, family involvement and the potential risk of contamination if forensic cleaning was not managed correctly.

Although the family initially wanted the home demolished, the technical assessment needed to determine whether the property could be repaired under the policy.

The solution

Morgan Projects coordinated the post-police site response, including additional make-safe works, security, forensic cleaning, asbestos testing, structural engineering and restoration reporting.

A detailed site inspection and scope assessment were completed with the insurer’s assessor, with appropriate controls in place for safety, sensitivity and access.

Specialist reporting confirmed that the property could be repaired, supported by a structural remedial solution and restoration methodology. The scope was then refined and issued to tender.

The result

The claim was settled on a repair basis, supported by the reporting, scope and repair methodology.

The family was very complimentary of the process, and settlement was achieved within approximately three months from the date of loss, despite delays relating to the police investigation and settlement pathway.

Through scope review and tender management, Morgan Projects delivered an actual saving of approximately $80,000
